Memorial UMC is a small community and diverse church that gives a warm and welcoming nature to all. We welcome anyone to come join us in worship, praise, and service to our God of the Bible, as we regularly participate in community services from meeting with shut-ins, contribute to services such as meals on wheels to feeding the homeless. Memorial UMC has dedicated individuals to help move the church forward with activities, planning and service for its members and the community. We love to have you worship with us.

Originally established in 1862, the current church building was built in 1916 following the church's destruction from a terrible storm in the early 20th century, where as the church's original building, erected not from from its current location, was destroyed during the civil war.

Christ's Church

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:17-19

Celebration A Must

We believe and emphasize how it is God’s direction for us to assemble ourselves together to praise, worship and celebrate…

“..not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25

“O house of Levi, bless the Lord; You who fear the Lord [and worship Him with obedience], bless the Lord [with grateful praise]” Psalms 135:2

Memorial UMC Choir

Directed by James Miller, an incredibly talented musician and music teacher at a local High School. James gives us the sincerity of worship with the whimsical talent of a modern pianist. There are times where the Pastor ask James to bolt down the piano seeing how much it dances right in its place.

The choir is from various backgrounds and with the sparking talents from alto to soprano, its the warmth and love in the voices that Memorial cherishes in its choir.

Walk To Emmaus

A program of the Upper Room division of the General Board Discipleship which calls forth and renews Christian discipleship. The Walk to Emmaus is a three-day experience, a highly structured weekend, which takes a New Testament look at Christianity as a life-style. The program is designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people and through them their families, congregations, and the world.

The Great Commission

Our Community

With the ever present goal of gaining souls for Christ, we at Memorial strive to reachout to those in our community especially to those in need. We attempt to give our full hearts and spirits to help include these people into our church membership, a place to call home and taste the heavenly gift of Love.

One of our goals with OPERATION Reachout, is to gain at least 1 person or family a year into the church.

Supporting the Needy

Jefferson County has several ministries to help those in need. Memorial has great compassion for feeding the homeless at Asbury UMC which is downtown Charles Town, WV. These men, women and children come from all walks of life, and we help to provide love in what ways we can.

Children

Memorial has had many a children in and out of its doors over decades of dedicated service. Although our children has all grown up, we are open to new comers of all types and background to help grow and learn of God found in Christ Jesus. We do have paid nursery staff on hand if needed, including Sunday School teachers with years of experience.
