Pastor Donald McCallister of Martinsburg, WV was appointed to Memorial UMC in 2020 amongst the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Being new to the ministry, he was also newly married to his wonderful wife Susan in 2019. Donald is a bi-vocational Pastor, meaning he holds a full time job while also exercising ministeral duties in the United Methodist Church. Amid his Pastoral duties, Pastor Donald completed the License to Preach Class in 2021 and is continuing his education in the ministry with the Course of Study (COS) requirements as directed in the United Methodist Book of Discipline (BOD) from Wesley Seminary in Washington, DC. In 2022, he became commissioned as a Licensed Local Pastor and continuing his service to his parishioners and the conference.
Originally from southern West Virginia while growing up in the southern Baptist denomination, Pastor Donald also served active duty in the United States Navy during the post Gulf War era, Operation Desert Strike, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and several other engadgements.
Giving himself whole heartedly, Pastor Donald attempts to preach the word of God as is, with lots of emphasis on daily life and realism where his motto ‘Never be stagnant’ is expressed often. He collectively gives all people opportunities to serve the church with the emphasis on participating in worship services, leading bible studies, engadging in community services and even ringing the church bell, all the while encouraging parishioners to engage Christ more and more in being a 'Holy and living sacrifice.'
In his younger teenage years, Pastor Donald discerned his interests in serving Christ. At the age of 15, he delivered his very first sermon at the Wild Meadow Baptist Church in White Sulphur Springs, WV. As his continuing growth to adulthood matured and while giving to the testimony of God's call to his new journey in Christ, in 2017, Pastor Donald followed the Holy Spirits full direction of his calling immediately following the passing of a beloved brother in the UMC, Rev. Richard Broome, Pikeside UMC, Martinsburg, WV, whom was a great inspiration to his new journey.
To date, Pastor Donald gives great emphasis on the ongoing mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ which is not only the mission of the United Methodist Church, but a directive given to us by our Savior Jesus the Christ. In doing so, we are always reminded to reach beyond the four walls of the church, go into the mission field and minister the good news of God, by the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Donald's wife Susan is originally from Spring Grove, PA with a background from the United Church of Christ. Donald & Susan met at Pikeside United Methodist Church in 2015 and was married in 2019. Both Donald & Susan being new to the ministry setting, Donald as Pastor and Husband, Susan as Wife, and major support role as a Pastors Wife, had a collective effort in both following Gods direction in their personal lives and the life of ministry in the United Methodist Church. Pastor Donald often stated, “Sue has a full time job just keeping me straight!” Donald always reminds people his success, whether great or small, is always from God first, then his team supporter and unsung hero, Susan.
Susan has a passion for service as she has worked in the public eye from department stores to the medical industry. In her spare time Susan is active in her prayer life and doing arts and crafts. They both enjoy theatre, plays, good wholesome shows and traveling.
